The Historical Museum demonstrates the Ancient art of Shanxi province

On November 23, 2016 brought from China exhibition “Ancient Art of Shanxi Province” opens at the exhibition complex of the Historical Museum in Moscow. It tells us about the culture with multi-millennial history, acquaints us with what lived, how people lived in the territory of the province of 2-3 thousand years ago. Excellent preservation of exhibits allows to obtain maximum representation of the lifestyle and values of those times.

Shanxi Province is located in northern China to the east of the Loess Plateau. The western and southern areas are in the Yellow River Basin, in the east it is closed of the Taihang Mountains, and on the north by mountains Inshan. Historically, this area linking the farming culture of the Chinese center and the nomadic culture of the north. The exhibition was brought to Russia for the first time from the largest museum of the province, in which more than 400 thousand monuments of culture are exhibited.

The exposition will be interesting both for specialists who study the culture of China and the rest of the visitors, who want to get acquainted with this ancient civilization. Exhibition Curator Natalia Ivanovna Shishlina clarified that “the basic concept of the exhibition was the desire to show a special Chinese specifics and bring it closer to the person with the other, a European mentality. For after following the exhibition, visitors will thinking about the transience of his being, the essence of life.”

The exhibition space consists of eight halls-parts, related to each other with a single concept way of life, and the center – wheel circle, which is one of the foundations of Chinese philosophy and culture. It all starts in the home, where Chinese born, and ends in the tomb after his death lead him to a new circle of rebirth. So the exhibition begins with the hall called the House and Life of inhabitants Shanxi Province since ancient times. You can then proceed either to the halls of the rulers – the Hall of power and attributes and Guan Yu and his men, or in rooms dedicated to religion and art – the Art of theater through the ages, Taoism and Buddhism. Completing the path, you will pass through the “Zone of reflection” in the Tomb of the Minister Zhao.

The exhibition presents unique exhibits, the oldest of which date back to the 9th century BC. Most of them were found during the excavation of the tombs, there are ceremonial vessels, each of which is intended for their own purposes, and funeral masks and weapons, and even the suite – skillfully made figures of warriors, musicians and servants. Also featuring religious items – murals, figures and figurines.

Present at the first show of the exhibition director of the Shanxi Province Museum Shi Tszinmin expressed the hope that this exhibition will help visitors get acquainted with the culture of northern China and deeper dive into its atmosphere.

The exhibition will be opened from 23 November 2016 to 27 February 2017 at Exhibition Complex of the Historical Museum, Revolution Square, 2/3.
