Cultural events are not infrequent in Italy, as spending on culture is reducing every year and currently amounts to less than 1% of the state budget. More than half of theaters were closed in the country in the last 2-3 years.
The main event today – World Exhibition Expo 2015, which takes place in Italy from May 1 till October 31, 2015. Its theme is food. For six months Milan has become a global showcase in which 140 countries from all over the world show their best technologies in order to provide people with food which would be healthy, safe and enough for all without harming the planet’s ecology. More than 20 mln visitors, tourists and Italians are expected.
In the center of the exhibition – original structure The Tree of Life – a symbol of EXPO. The exhibition is going on under the musical accompaniment in the tradition of Italian culture, followed by a play of light.
Paintings of Monet, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, Renoir, Degas, Picasso, Modigliani, Matisse, and Kandinsky were brought to Italy from Detroit – in all 52 masterpieces. In this regard, the exhibition “From the Impressionists to Picasso” was opened in Genoa in the ducal palace on September 25. It is a famous city-collector which was the first to appreciate these paintings, when in Europe they were still undervalued.
The exhibition was opened by the US Ambassador in Italy, John Phillips. It will last until April 10, 2016.
