Russia has named the three winners of the theatrical Volkov award

The Russian government encouraged three major theatrical figures of Russia for the contribution to development of theatrical art in 2016.

The award will be given to the Mari state Opera and ballet theatre named after Eric Sapaev, the Rostov academic drama theatre named after Maxim Gorky and Valentine Meschangina – actress pf Komi-Permyak national drama theatre named after M. Gorky.

First prize in honor of Fyodor Volkov, the founder of the Russian theatre was established in 2000. It is given to the provincial theatres and theatre workers for the significant contribution to the development of theatrical art. Nominees receive a special prize, a certificate and a cash award in the amount of 100’000 rubles to the prize only once.

The awards will be held from 12 to 25 September 2016 at the International Volkov festival, which will take place at the Academic drama theatre named after Fyodor Volkov in Yaroslavl.
